Though the stories are similar, each couple must defend their marriage in unique ways. Bailey's heroes are commanding but not irrational, which makes it easy to hear the villains. The men hide their finer feelings behind hard-earned shells of steel while the women hide their equally hard-won cores of steel behind soft-spoken demeanors and innocent sensuality.īailey's soft British accent lends appropriate foreignness to this trilogy set in ninth-century Norway and England. The three couples, Wolf and Cymbra, Hawk and Krysta, and Dragon and Rycca, are all well matched. But peace is not easily won either on the battlefield or in the marriage bed. Peace between them would give their common enemy, the Danes, a war on two fronts. ![]() With those unspoken words, Wolf Hakonson suggests the first alliance between Norse and Saxon. Īnd it's a different character in here, the way he dresses and all. ![]() I was hoping for his story since I've read. Even though it was a marriage of convenience, fake at that these two fast grew attracted to the other. They were perfectly matched and bravo to his mother for playing matchmaker. Be aware that it does end up being a cliffy so I'm overly excited to see where this author takes us with this couple. Neither of these two want to get married but his reaction to the news was by far the most humorous and that's where I knew I was going to love this book. ![]() Even though at first she was against marrying Perry this was her escape from an overbearing father. He swears a lot, like a lot lot, cracks me up with this fuck no's and fuck that's and it didn't take me long at all to fall under his spell.Ĭharlotte Lancaster is endearing, she so unlike any character I have encountered before, one misdemeanor has her under the thumb of her father and locked away in a gilded cage. This is the first time I've met Perry but I instantly connected with his character. easy to get into, hard to put down, highly enjoyable. The very first chapter Perry Constantine got his hooks into me and didn't let go, this is how a slow burn romance should be written!! I was under this authors spell. ![]() ![]() ![]() This actually brought about a fun encounter on a public bus one day when I was lost in my book and all of a sudden exploded into laughter at a line. The author is quite funny, and a few line actually brought on rather raucous and spontaneous out-loud laughing for me. But, beware – the humor, delightful as it is, is merely one small sideline of a very very different sort of novel.īefore the spoilers: Some fun passages which won’t spoil anything: I will site some of my favorites of these to potential readers as sort of a lure into the novel. However, the one thing that tended to be CONSISTENT throughout the novel, perhaps the only thing, was the humor of some of the narrator’s comments. However, if you wish to read a quite amazing book, one of the more astonishing stories I’ve read in ages, then STOP READING these notes at the warning sign below and read the novel itself. ![]() Thus, what follows is first a very few SENTENCES about the novel. ![]() That’s sort of the decision I’ve finally made, but the more I attempted to say “little” about the book first, the more and more I had to reduce it. I first thought I would write a few things about the overall novel, and then put a huge warning: SPOILER and write what I have to say. I can hardly say anything about the book without it being a spoiler. This is one of the most difficult books to write about which I have ever read. ![]() Book REVIEW THE DEBT TO PLEASURE: A NOVEL By John Lanchester THE DEBT TO PLEASURE: A NOVEL By John Lanchester ![]() ![]() ![]() Gibson does not try to necessarily sugarcoat the abuse that Constanta and her counterparts experience. It genuinely causes you to feel these words. The way the words seemed to flow together, and express love, pain, and abuse were tangible. ![]() ST Gibson’s writing is fantastic and had me highlighting quotes on every other page. This is how the amazingly lush, Victorian novel begins. “If you can still hear me wherever you are, my love, my tormentor, hear this: It was never my intention to murder you. A lyrical and dreamy reimagining of Dracula’s brides, A DOWRY OF BLOOD is a story of desire, obsession, and emancipation. ![]() ![]() ![]() Juliette and Warner fought hard to take down the Reestablishment once and for all. Shatter Me is a young adult dystopian hexalogy written by Tahereh Mafi. ![]() ![]() It mostly reads like a series of wasted narrative opportunities, or as a warning for authors that don't know what they want to say on their main subject. It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either, that's why I'm giving it three stars. There's no answer to what exactly happened to Thorby's parents, or any development on the galactic politics that allowed everything to happen. ![]() Things just seem to happen haphazardly, and then the story ends. This is a terrible thing, because for a story about a slave boy finding his way in the galaxy, you'd think you would feel some empathy for the boy, but I never did. There are no scenes that make you feel truly sorry for him, and his character development isn't exploited. It's not bad, but I never cared too much about Thorby.
